She took matters into her own hands, approaching couture shoemaker Jimmy Choo and launching the label in 1996. Today, it is a cult classic among fashionistas and celebrities alike.

Well, japanese girls pretty much introduced americans to shaggier, thin, straight, razory hair. They also dress pretty bright, and colorful which helps the scene fad, and rave fad a bit.
